High Performance Concrete Aggregate

At our newly opened Long Beach Terminal in Los Angeles, we are working closely with our customers to demonstrate the significant value to structural concrete applications provided by using a high quality concrete aggregate. After delivering our first load of materials to the Long Beach Terminal in 2015, we completed a series of trial batches at various cement contents and water/cement ratios. This ‘bible’ of concrete performance characteristics independently demonstrated the benefits of Orca aggregates of features such as compressive strength, drying shrinkage, creep and Modulus of Elasticity (MOE). Polaris' aggregates provide advantages to end-users, designers, engineers, contractors and owners with significant benefits to both the placement and performance of concrete including reduced cement and admixture usage, improved set times, lower heat of hydration and improved compressive strength and MOE for seismic codes.

Internal Supply to US Concrete's Northern California Operating Brands - Central Concrete Supply & Right-Away Redi-Mix

Polaris supplies material to its sister companies, US Concrete's San Francisco Bay Area companies via the Richmond Terminal. Central Concrete has been serving the San Francisco Bay area for more than 60 years. They are recognized for engineering higher-performing concrete compared to traditional concrete — delivering high early-strength, low shrinkage and superior permeability — with a significantly lower carbon footprint than standard ready-mix concretes. Right Away Redy Mix delivers ready-mixed concrete to small contractors and homeowners in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Customers choose Right Away for their projects – from patios to driveways to foundations.

Long Term Customers

Polaris has two long term supply customers; both in the San Francisco Bay Area. CEMEX USA, Inc. ("Cemex") is a US-based company owned by Cemex SAB de CV, which is based in Mexico and is one of the largest cement and construction materials companies in the world. Cemex purchases aggregates for its own terminals in Redwood City and at Pier 92 in San Francisco, California, and also receives material via Polaris’ Richmond Terminal. As well, Polaris has a long term agreement with Shamrock Materials, Inc. ("Shamrock"). Shamrock is a long-established private manufacturer of ready mixed concrete located in the north San Francisco Bay area. Sales to Shamrock are either via Polaris’ Richmond terminal or are lightered onto barges at anchorage in San Francisco Bay. The lightering is a key component of the company's integrated logistics operations.

Other Customers

Polaris markets products to several Ready-Mix customers in the Los Angeles Market as well as customers in the Vancouver, communities along the BC Coast, Alaska and Hawaii markets, and continues to evaluate opportunities to sell materials into other markets along the west coast of North America. Customers include several significant aggregate terminal operators and ready mix producers.
